Techos de México. The tourist rooms of Chacala operate under this trademark, which guarantees the highest level of quality and gives the owners the ability to market their rooms together. The "Techos de México" trademark shown here has great meaning. The pre-Colombian symbol "calli" represents a house ; the symbols depicted at the base of the house are "ollin" , which means movement. The footsteps show you the way. A note from José Enrique del Valle the Coordinator of the Techos de México Project I would like to thank the families who have built their houses, and those that are working towards it, for their participation and trust in the project. With this words, I would like to convey to you my hope that this association will grow bigger and stronger every day. A México with a better distribution of touristic income is a must, It is indeed healthy for the tourist industry to make the effort to create a dense layer of domestic entrepreneurs where competition is based on a low cost - high quality service, whose attractiveness is its small scale and personalized attention. I believe in tourism as an agent of true human interchange. The combined work of guests and host towards a common goal enriches both. The result we have obtained in the workcamps is an example of this. The experience does not end there; Chacala and its families will continue to offer an amiable home and family to visit and vacation with in México. Certainly these "responsible tourist" believe in the slogan "the best of México is the smile of its people." Creating entrepreneurs and therefore money, the touristic development of the community does not mean environmental destruction. Ours is a project that seeks to improve local sustainable development. A community with good economic resources and good planning can meet the challenges of trash disposal, drainage, an efficient potable water system, and urban aesthetics. It is a community that has time and money to protect the environment that enriches them. It is difficult to understand why building a simple and pretty home is still the privilege of a few in México. Many thanks to each and every one of you who came to work with us or who have, in one way or another, backed our efforts.
